Biographical Sketch

Professor Shub joined the faculty at UCCS in 1984. He received his BSEE and MSEE from the University of Maryland in 1967 and 1968. He received a Ph. D. in Computer Science from the University of Kansas in 1974. In addition to his current appointment, he has been on the Computer Science faculty at the Universities of Kansas, Wyoming and Vermont. He has also been a researcher for A. T. and T. Information Systems (nee Bell Laboratories) working on the performance prediction of large scale distributed systems.

Dr. Shub is a fellow of the Society for Computer Simulation. He served on the society's board of governors from 1982 to 2002. Moreover, he represented SCS on the steering committee for the National Educational Computer Conference from 1992 through 2003. He is also served 4 years as the editor in chief of their monthly journal, SIMULATION.

From 1988 to 1991 Dr. Shub was the Mountain Regional Representative for ACM (the first society in computing) and thus served on ACM Council, the policy making board of that organization. Within ACM, he served as vice chairman of SIGSIM (ACM's special interest group on Simulation) from 1978 to 1980 and chairman of the Boulder, Colorado ACM Chapter from 1983 to 1984. He is a member of SIGOPS, (the Special Interest group on Operating Systems) SIGMETRICS, (measurement and evaluation) and SIGCSE (Computer Science Education). He has published several papers and participated in panel discussions on Computer Science Education, Simulation, Performance Evaluation, and Operating Systems. His research interests are currently focused on heterogeneous networks of workstations and the sharing of software among them.

Since 1994, he has been the campus' NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative. In fall, 2006, he was selected as a FAR fellow and was invited to participate in the second annual Division II FAR leadership institute. He is also the Chair of the Region 7 NCAA post Graduate Scholarship evaluation committee and will begin a four year term as a member of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee in September, 2008.

Research Areas of Interest
